Chiaroscuro, “Aspen Leaf Ultimatum.” A mom who is dedicated to the Colorado Rockies reaching the postseason has an unusual proposition for a street performer she lured down from an aspen tree in Boulder, Colorado. LINK. *Challenge for my dedicated fans: Scroll through this anthology and see if you can spy another work I’ve penned, under a nom-de-plume. <3

OyeDrum, “Fall Back” A middle-aged woman with a migraine meets a cowboy who takes her far away to cure her pain in an effort to heal from his own sins. LINK. Recently nominated for a “Best of the Net” consideration!

OyeDrum, “Over the Rainbow” A brutal, fictionalized exploration of far-too-true realities for the queer community, particularly trans people of color. #saytheirnames #translivesmatter #transrightsarehumanrights #loveislove #thefutureisqueer *Trigger Warning: I took off the gloves in this piece because the number of people in the trans community who are murdered each year is #unforgiveable. This topic is of great significance to me. This story may be triggering for anyone in the LGBTQ+ community. Please take care of yourselves. You are loved! Every one of you is valued. LINK.

Across the Margin, “Plumb Pudding” A not-unbelievable speculative take on a plumber who cleans up the House of Representatives after being lured into a face-off with one of the president’s protégées. *Trigger Warning: Some people might find this story to be politically incorrect. LINK.

Still Coming Home, an anthology of writing from the Denver Veterans Writing Workshop. “One Person, One Vote” A frighteningly believable story, based on Laura’s experiences working as a 2016 elections’ judge. *Trigger Warning: For those who are worried about the 2020 elections, you will either love this story or it will keep you up at night. Far too timely to be discounted outright. LINK.

Flash! A Celebration of Short-Short Fiction, “Get Down, Mr. President” A teenage game goes badly awry when a young man takes on a white supremacist. LINK.

Third Place, Flash Fiction, Fish Anthology [Ireland] “Walrus Brings the Dominoes” A humorous take on the scary proposition a construction worker faces after a long workday. LINK.

“Firmly Rooted Policy” One of Laura’s PG stories. Unlike most of her work, this flash fiction is perfect for all audiences. A warning for young children, lest they refuse to listen to grown-ups. This story won first place in the Spirited Stories category for wrinkled yet creative cronies over the unforgivable age of thirty-five. DOWNLOAD PDF.
